Jungle Rhythm: Daily Life & Flow

The Daily Schedule

Life in the retreat unfolds with the natural rhythm of the Amazon. Each day is woven with ceremonies, quiet reflection, nourishing meals, and time in nature. This rhythm creates balance between inner healing and outer connection. Here’s a typical day for guests:

  • Morning Plant Ceremony: At dawn, guests gather in the maloca, where Demetrio’s Shipibo icaros fill the air, accompanied by the smell of burning mapacho. Guests drink a warm tea made from their chosen master plant, its bitter taste signaling the start of their daily connection to its energy. The ceremony, held in candlelight, prepares guests for the day’s healing process.
  • Dieta-Compliant Meals (8:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 6:00 PM): Meals serve in a our dining area, following dieta restrictions. Meals use local ingredients like manioc, quinoa, and vegetables, free of salt, sugar, or spices. These plant-based dishes support guests’ cleansing process and provide nourishment throughout the day.
  • Plant Baths & Treatments: Mid-morning, Sergio oversees a plant bath near the maloca. Cool water infused with sacred plants is poured over guests, its herbal scent refreshing their bodies. Demetrio’s chants enhance the experience, helping guests clear emotional and energetic blockages. Throughout the day, participants may receive individualized plant treatments according to their dieta.
  • Resting Time: Guests return for quiet rest. Surrounded by jungle sounds like insects and distant wildlife, this time allows guests to journal, reflect on the plant’s effects, or relax, supporting the dieta’s focus on solitude and inner connection.
  • Jungle Walks & Boat Trips (3 trips over the retreat): In the afternoon, guided walks through the jungle offer connection with the living world of plants. We also offer boat trips along the rivers surrounding the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo National Reserve guided by Jerusalén community member. The sound of water against the boat and the smell of damp air accompany guests as they observe the reserve’s lush vegetation and diverse wildlife. The guide explains the uses of medicinal plants growing along the riverbanks and points out animals in their natural habitat, connecting guests to the Amazon’s ecosystem and supporting their healing process.
  • Integration Circles: In the evening, guests join a group circle in the maloca, where a small fire burns and mapacho smoke lingers. Guided by Demetrio and Sergio, guests share insights or feelings, gaining support from the group to process the plant’s teachings in a safe, communal setting. Some evenings include dieta ceremonies, where the plant teachers are taken in sacred ritual. On other nights, silence and rest allow the plants to continue their work inwardly. Each day ends in stillness, honoring the medicine and the sacred jungle that surrounds us.
  • Time in Nature (Flexible, Evening or Free Moments): During free moments, guests relax by the river, watching the water reflect the stars, or rest in a hammock surrounded by jungle sounds. These moments help guests connect with the Amazon’s natural energy and the plant spirits.

Supporting Guests’ Healing
